Protect the Property Tax Levy Freeze
Ask Lawmakers to Protect the Freeze on Property Tax Levy LimitsIn 2011, Wisconsin lawmakers put a FREEZE on property tax levy increases at the local level. This gave the power to the people to raise their own local taxes by referenda.
Wisconsin’s most onerous tax is the property tax, among the highest rates in the nation. The PROPERTY TAX FREEZE prevents local governments from unilaterally raising your taxes and has saved Wisconsinites more than $3.5 billion since 2011. If the local PROPERTY TAX LEVY FREEZE were to THAW – you would lose control, and your property taxes could SIGNIFICANTLY increase every year.
Now, when local units of government want to raise your taxes, they must come to you and ask for permission. The referenda method works with nearly 80 percent of local referenda passing.
BIG CITY LOBBYISTS in Madison are working hard to lift the levy limit and take away control over your property tax increases – POSSIBLY BRINGING BIG INCREASES TO YOUR PROPERTY TAX BILL without your consent.
With rising inflation already hurting Wisconsin families and seniors on a fixed income, now is not the time to make drastic changes that could DRAMATICALLY INCREASE YOUR PROPERTY TAXES.
We must put a stop to this and keep the control in your hands!
Please join our coalition by filling out the form and ask your local legislator to KEEP THE FREEZE on local property tax levy limits.
